Accountability. Transparency. Leadership You Can Trust.
Honoring John Lewis Day
Today, we remember the life and legacy of Congressman John Lewisâa man who never stopped making âgood troubleâ in the fight for justice, dignity, and equality.
His unwavering courage, relentless pursuit of civil rights, and deep commitment to community continue to inspire this campaign and everything I stand for.
As a candidate for At-Large City Council, I carry his vision: that ordinary people can change the world when they stand up, speak out, and refuse to be silenced.
âGet in good trouble, necessary trouble, and help redeem the soul of America.â â John Lewis
Let us walk togetherâwith love, conviction, and truthâas John Lewis did. âđžđď¸

Housing for All: Bridging Growth and Preservation in Greensboro
As Greensboro sets its sights on the future of housing, two powerful initiatives are working side by side to ensure growth is both bold and just.
đ§ The Road to 10,000: Building a Bigger Housing Future
The Cityâs Road to 10,000 aims to develop 10,000 new housing units by 2030. Through its user-friendly dashboard, the city offers updates on permitting, development opportunities, and ways to get involved. Itâs growth at scaleâand built for transparency.
đĄ Community Preservation: Centering People in the Process
The Housing & Community Preservation initiative ensures equity is part of the plan. It works to:
- Advocate for affordable and diverse housing
- Support long-term homeownership
- Expand services to help individuals and families exit homelessness permanently
đ¤ Two Visions, One Mission
Hereâs how both initiatives complement each other:

Builds new housing supply | Preserves community fabric |
Engages developers and buyers | Supports families and the unhoused |

Building a Path to Homeownership in Greensboro
As a candidate committed to uplifting our community and driving meaningful change, I am thrilled to see the city's increased investment in the Homebuyer Assistance Program. This initiative perfectly aligns with my campaign's core belief that everyone in our community deserves a fair shot at stability and prosperity.
The recent announcement of an additional $500,000 in funding is a significant step forward. This new investment doubles the maximum assistance amount for eligible buyers, from $10,000 to $20,000.
Why This Matters to My Campaign:
- **Creating Pathways to Success:** Homeownership is the bedrock of building generational wealth, and this program will help more families achieve that dream. It's especially crucial for first-time buyers navigating a challenging housing market.
- **Supporting Our Community Heroes:** The program provides additional support for low-income buyers and public service heroes like teachers, first responders, and healthcare workers. My campaign is dedicated to advocating for those who are the backbone of our city.
- **Revitalizing Neighborhoods:** The focus on targeted redevelopment areas, where buyers could receive up to $30,000 in total assistance, demonstrates a commitment to strengthening our entire community, not just individual families.
This is the kind of progress we need to continue building on. My campaign is dedicated to working with city officials and community members to ensure programs like this are not only well-funded but also accessible to every eligible resident. By investing in our people and our neighborhoods, we are investing in a stronger, more vibrant Greensboro for everyone.
đŁ Highlighting Youth Power in Greensboro
Lily Oatis, Gen Z journalist and founder of Not Just Headlines, is a powerful voice for civic education and voter engagement. Her platform uplifts the voices of young people, challenging them to take action and shape their local communities.
Her work is a bold complement to the LaToya B. Gathers campaign, which is rooted in equity, youth empowerment, and trauma-informed leadership. As we approach election day, our campaign continues to prioritize accessible policy conversations, mental health advocacy, and actionable pathways to change.
Together, weâre building a Greensboro where everyoneâs voice matters.

Call for Transparency & Accountability
They might have the big-money endorsements, but we have the people. They've already chosen their team; let's show them who the real power is.
Providing exclusive event access to elected officials while barring their challengers invites suspicionânot just of political favoritism, but of using public influence and taxpayer-supported resources to benefit specific political actors.
More troubling for Cone Health is its status as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Under federal tax law, these organizations are strictly prohibited from supporting or opposing any political candidate. Offering perks exclusively to incumbents during an election season, while excluding registered challengers, could be construed as impermissible political activityâand may put Cone Healthâs nonprofit status at risk.
The Greensboro Chamber of Commerce, a 501(c)(6) organization, is allowed to engage in limited political activity. But because it receives public funding and partners with taxpayer-funded entities, it too is expected to maintain a basic level of political neutrality and transparencyâespecially when hosting events involving elected officials.
Greensboroâs Chamber of Commerce wields significant influence over local government decisions, particularly in areas like tax incentives, zoning laws, and infrastructure projects. By lobbying for policies that favor corporate interests, the Chamber often shapes the economic trajectory of the cityâsometimes at the expense of small businesses and taxpayers.
Cone Health and the Chamber of Commerce both receive public funds and serve as government contractors. Under North Carolina law (NCGS § 133-32), it is unlawful for contractors to give gifts or favors to public officials involved in awarding or administering public contracts. It is equally illegal for officials to accept such gifts, as these actions may constitute quid pro quo arrangements or outright bribery under state and federal law.
Did you know that North Carolina law requires full disclosure of all lobbying event expensesâincluding the venue, catering, and setupânot just what was spent per attendee?
One recent report flagged an underreported political luncheon where expenses were misclassified, event reporting was left blank, and estimated costs were filed for 11 guests despite evidence that 50+ attended. Thatâs not just a clerical oversightâitâs a potential breach of public trust.
When ethics rules arenât followed, we all lose. Itâs time to demand accountability and full transparency from groups like TREBIC and the officials who represent us.

Leadership is about character, respect, and accountability. When a candidate resorts to removing signs, silencing visibility, and undermining fair campaigning, it speaks volumes.
Iâve received support from local business owners who witnessed these actions firsthand. This isnât just about signsâitâs about trust.
I believe our community deserves better. We deserve leaders who uplift, not sabotage. Thatâs why Iâm runningâto restore integrity and ensure every voice is heard.
Built Together, Not Handed Down đŚđ
Policy shouldn't come from the top downâit should rise from the hearts, hopes, and everyday wisdom of the people itâs meant to serve.
This campaign is shaped by youâyour stories, your questions, your vision for whatâs possible in Greensboro. From town hall gatherings to survey insights, weâve been listening. And weâre building a plan that reflects what youâve told us:
- 82% of recent respondents say affordable housing is their top concern.
- Parents are calling for expanded childcare access and better support for mental health in schools.
- Weâve heard loud and clear the need for clean water access and stronger infrastructure investments.
- And across the board, folks are ready for clean, green building initiatives that protect our environment and create good local jobs.
Together, weâre reimagining development with climate justice in mindâfrom energy-efficient homes to sustainable community centers. Itâs not just about buildings. Itâs about building better for future generations.

Because lasting change isnât handed down. Itâs builtâtogether.
While some are clapping for handshakes and headlines, Iâm walking with neighbors who are hungry for real change.
Todayâs congratulations may echo in the room â but the voices I listen to are the ones outside it. Everyday people. Parents. Workers. Students. Seniors.
My campaign isnât backed by tradition or status. Itâs powered by truth, transparency, and the belief that our future doesnât belong to insiders â it belongs to Greensboro.
Why My Signs Matter
You wonât see my signs on every stoplight or plastered across every intersectionâand thatâs intentional. My signs are placed with purpose, in the yards of people who believe in this campaign, who know me, and who trust what I stand for. Each one represents a real conversation, a shared vision, and a neighbor who said, âI believe in you.â
Community over coverage. Authenticity matters.
This campaign isnât about being seenâitâs about being felt. Itâs not about politics as usualâitâs about showing up, listening, and leading with integrity.
Iâm not here to flood corners. Iâm here to earn trust. One yard. One voice. One neighborhood at a time.
