Our Plan

Everyone’s Voice Matters

  • Every citizen deserves representation, respect, and the right to participate in shaping our shared future.
  • Dr. Gathers believes that democracy thrives when all voices—regardless of background—are heard and valued.
Our Plan

Public Safety & Police Support

  • Supports well-trained, community-focused officers who protect all citizens while upholding civil rights.
  • Advocates for recruitment to fill vacancies, improve response times, and increase neighborhood safety.
  • Invests in youth workforce development to reduce crime and build brighter futures.
Our Plan

Transparency & Accountability

  • To ensure transparency and foster civic engagement, I propose installing a Digital board—a dynamic digital display that shares meeting information, community updates, and cause-driven initiatives. This tool will serve as a public accountability hub, making it easier for residents to stay informed and involved.
  • Every decision, law, and dollar should be visible, understandable, and accountable to the people.
Our Plan

Jobs & Economic Development

  • Youth Council & Service-Learning Partnerships
I’ve championed the creation of a Youth Council and service-learning partnerships to build leadership—not dependency. These initiatives empower young people with real responsibility, meaningful mentorship, and a seat at the table in shaping local policy. We’re not just preparing future leaders—we’re inviting them to lead now.

This isn’t about performative engagement. It’s about cultivating civic ownership, fostering strategic thinking, and ensuring our youth are equipped to advocate for themselves and their communities with clarity and confidence

  • Supports a $25/hr living wage for fair, dignified employment.
  • Removes barriers that prevent economic investment and promotes small business innovation.
  • 🎓 Service Learning Forgiveness Program

Investing in youth. Forgiving through service. Rebuilding with care.
This initiative partners with local colleges to cover room and board for students in social impact fields—like social work, public health, and education. In return, students complete service-learning placements in shelters, clinics, and outreach teams that directly support underserved communities.

    Why It Works:

    • Keeps talented youth rooted in Greensboro
    • Builds a skilled, service-minded workforce
    • Reframes education as civic investment
    • Strengthens community through mentorship and care

    Post-Graduation Incentive:
Graduates who serve locally for 5 years receive loan forgiveness or housing stipends. Those who opt out repay the city—ensuring accountability and reinvestment.

    🚐 Mobile Community Care Unit

Meeting people where they are—with services that restore, not just respond.
This roving unit—staffed by interns from the social program who work alongside and are guided by licensed health and mental health professionals, alongside city partners—brings essential services directly to unhoused residents and high-need neighborhoods.

    Onboard Services Include:

    • Basic healthcare & mental health support
    • Community officer for safety & mediation
    • Employment services & resume clinics
    • Resource navigation (ID recovery, housing referrals, benefits access)

The unit rotates weekly, building trust through consistency and care. It’s not charity—it’s strategy to restore dignity, close service gaps, and build a locally invested population

Our Plan

Housing & Community Preservation

  • 🏘️ Transitional Housing Rooted in Dignity

Empowerment over dependency. Stability over spectacle.

For our unhoused neighbors, I’ve consistently advocated for transitional housing models that prioritize dignity, long-term stability, and reintegration—not temporary fixes or performative gestures. Our communities deserve solutions that empower—not systems that perpetuate reliance.

  • Advocates for affordable and diverse housing options that promote smart growth, prevent displacement, and support stable, thriving communities.
  • Dr. Gathers works with developers who understand that building isn’t just about structures—it’s about strengthening communities. Her approach ensures that housing remains affordable, zoning stays protective, and every project reflects the dignity and needs of Greensboro’s residents. By collaborating with mission-driven builders, she turns development into a tool for equity, not displacement.
